The Victorian 4WD Show has just completed its 33rd year of continuous operation and we've never had anything more than a touch of sunburn, some scratches and wounded pride to deal with at the First Aid Centre. We aim to keep it that way.
We respectfully take this opportunity to remind all attendees to be attentive to their own personal safety and that of those in their care or employ while at the Show.

1/. The Victorian 4WD Show is an outdoor event, held in rural Victoria, in summer.

2/. Due to the high levels of dryness experienced during summer, attendees should be on the alert for any wildlife such as
snakes, which are prone to lie in quiet areas (including the middle of paddocks!) and sun themselves. If disturbed and frightened,  they may react instinctively by striking.

3/. While the main show area sees a high volume of pedestrian traffic, some areas of the Show (notably the camping area and the track down to the Adventure Circuit)  do not receive such traffic and may not be 100% cleared of small and interesting creatures such as snakes, lizards and other wildlife which may be dangerous or a nuisance to attendees.

4/. Common sense must be used -
Refresh your First Aid knowledge before the Show - visit the
St. John Ambulance Service on the web - or the Rural Ambulance Service
Wear appropriate clothing for such an event - good shoes,  thick socks and if possible, good trousers. Be vigilant. Know where your children are and what they are doing, particularly when out of the main exhibitor areas. Move around noisily when walking in areas away from the main areas.

5/. If you have the misfortune to receive a snakebite:
Do not panic , stay calm and take measured breaths. Remove yourself, your employee or your loved one from the immediate area of the snake.
DO attempt to remember details of the snakes markings. This will aid the St. John Ambulance staff as to the correct antivenene to administer.
QUICKLY, attract the attention of a Show official (they will be wearing bright neon yellow vests and have a kind of beige bush hat) or send someone to do the same.
The officials are equipped with 2 way radios and will summon assistance immediately.
If you are close to a person or vehicle equipped with a UHF CB Radio, have them transmit a request for urgent assistance on Channel 05 , the official emergency channel. The Victorian 4WD Show organising team will have a monitor in place for such a situation.
